My approach and background
My journey to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist, with a master’s from the University of California, has been driven by a deep commitment to social justice. I am of Mexican and American heritage, fluent in Spanish and English, and have experienced the unique challenges of raising my son during his formative years in the foreign country of England. This professional and personal multicultural perspective, which I bring to my work with clients, allows me to consider the impact of our social identities on mental health.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in attachment theory, specifically Dr. Sue Johnson’s EFIT/EFT (Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy) for couples and individuals. This approach emphasizes understanding and managing emotions during the therapeutic process. I also integrate Dr. Dan Siegel’s Interpersonal Neurobiology, which delves into how our brains and relationships interact to shape our mental health.
